Caption of Thank You

Dear Beck Families,

This has been a great week here at Beck.  So much to share with you:

  1.  Thank You to all our Volunteers!  This week we celebrated our wonderful Beck volunteers with a special luncheon.  We could not run our school without all the extra helping hands!  Whether it is a day on a field trip, an hour a week for sight words, or a morning spent listening to students read – the contribution of your time is invaluable.  Our students benefit from your extra time.  Thank you to all our Beck volunteers!
  2. Beck Science Teachers – went on their own ‘field trip’ this week to the Sloan-Longway Planetarium in Flint to learn about the upcoming solar eclipse.  The full solar eclipse, a rare celestial event, will occur on August 21.  The last time an eclipse occurred just in the U.S. was June 12, 1257 (no, that is not a typo!)  Our teachers were getting prepared to help students learn about why eclipses occur, how to view them safely and what to expect on that day.  If you’d like more information about the solar eclipse, click on the website: http://www.eclipse2017.org/2017/path_through_the_US.htm

  3. 4th Graders – went on a fabulous field trip on the Clinton River to further their study of the water cycle.  Their adventures included a boat ride on the Clinton River out into Lake St. Clair to collect water samples along with a visit to the Lake St. Clair Metropark Nature Park.  Ask a 4th grader about their trip!

  4. 5th Graders – Visited Michigan Science Center in Detroit.  Their trip helped them with their study of ancient history (to see their mummies!) and the solar system.

  5. Bus Evacuation practice – Utica Community Schools continues to make sure all students, whether they regularly ride a bus or just on the occasional field trip, know what to do in the event of a bus emergency.  All our students participated in the 2nd practice of the year this week.

  6. Yearbooks – Last call on pre-ordering yearbooks for this year.  The cost is $16.00.  The deadline was today, but we’ll accept orders on Monday, May 1.  If you miss this opportunity we sometimes have extras for sale, but they go quickly – you won’t want to miss out!
