Happy St. Patrick’s Day Beck Families!

The building was certainly looking ‘green’ today!  There were lots of great things happening around our school this week, and information families will want to know:

“My Mouth is a Volcano” – all the Beck students saw a musical performance this week regarding self-control.  Thanks to our Beck Family Volunteers, Mr. Widener was able to schedule this entertaining and informative assembly on how to recognize and then control our emotions.  This play was part of our “March is Reading Month” celebration.

Kindergarten Round Up – This week we held our annual informational meeting for incoming kindergarteners.  We welcomed in the parents of about 40 incoming Beck kindergartners for next year! If you have a child, who will be 5 years old before December 1, 2017, and you were not able to attend the Round-Up this week, please call the Beck office for the registration materials.  586-797-3900

Spring mean Tornado Season – Beck students reviewed “Take Cover” procedures this week.  In the event of foul weather, we want all our students and staff to be prepared, and know where their safe place is to take cover!  Living in Michigan, and it’s changing weather, means we always have to be prepared!

Third Grade Parents – Please make plans to attend the 3rd Grade Vocal Music Concert next week, on Thursday, March 23.  The students, under the direction of our music teacher, Mrs. Burris, have been busy getting ready for their performance!

“Meet us at Menchies” – TODAY!  That’s right!  On the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month, our Beck Student Council students are sponsoring a fundraiser at the Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt on 26 Mile Road and Van Dyke.  Simply mention Beck Centennial when you pay for your treat – and 25% will come back to Beck!  Treats for a good cause!  Maybe they have green yogurt . . . ?

BFV Road Rally – Time to register your teams for the BFV Road Rally being held on April 21.  Gather your team and get your registration forms in now – spots are limited!  You won't want to miss out on this fun event.  To get more information and a registration form, click on the link:   Road Rally Flyer

Utica Community Schools Art Festival - Come and see works of art from Utica Community Schools' very own students!  The Annual UCS K-12 Fine Arts Festival will be held at Ewell Elementary School, 51041 Shelby Road, Shelby Township (NW corner of 23 Mile Road and Shelby Road).  The Grand Opening is Monday, March 20 at 6:30 p.m.  Opening remarks begin at 7:00 in the gymnasium.  Beginning on Tuesday, March 21, the show is open daily from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. and runs until Thursday, March 23.  Admission is free!

Beck Family Science Night – Flyers went home last week for the Cranbrook Night of Science Adventures here at Beck Centennial.  Cranbrook will bring in 14 fun and informative interactive science explorations on Thursday, April 20 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Registration is required and space is limited.  The cost is $6.00 per child (adults must accompany students, but their admission is free!).  Currently registration is for Beck students first.

Fourth Grade Mothers and Daughter’s Maturation Program – The district program for 4th grade girls and their mothers will be held Tuesday, April 11 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Utica High Performing Arts Center.  Our school district nurse, Mrs. Rosbolt and the Macomb Intermediate School District Health Consultant will be presenting. If you would like to attend, please send in a registration form (to Beck) by March 24.  There is no charge for this program.  For a copy of the registration form, click here:   Mother and Daughter Maturation Presentation
