Good Afternoon Beck Parents,                                                                                 February 10, 2017

It’s cold outside, but things are busy in our building!

Parent Teacher Conferences were held last Thursday, Feb. 2.  Research shows how important it is to maintain good communication between home and school.  If you were not able to conference with your child’s teacher, and would like to do so, please contact them directly, or call the Beck Office at 586-797-3900 to set one up!  It’s always a good time to talk about your child’s school progress!

1st and 2nd Grade Music Concert – The first and second graders, under the direction of our Vocal Music Teacher, Mrs. Burris, put on a fabulous concert last night.  Adding to the evening was the colorful display of artwork, thanks to art teachers, Mrs. Grasl, and Mrs. Suroweic.  They warmed our hearts with their Valentine-themed musical event!  Mark your calendar, 3rd grade parents: March 23 is the date for their vocal music concert/art display.

Student Council has cooked up a way to shake off the winter blahs – Spirit Week! – next week, Monday, Feb. 13 – 17.  This week will not require a donation.  The days planned:

Monday – Lazy Day (no pajamas – just leisure wear)

                                                Tuesday – Valentine Colors!

Wednesday – Career Day  (dress like your dream job!)

Thursday – NFL Day  (show your Lions pride!)

                                                Friday – Hat Day

Valentines Day – Next Tuesday, Feb. 14.  Please following the guidelines your child’s classroom has established regarding food in the classroom when selecting Valentines to share with classmates.  Non-food Valentines are the best choices in allergy-restricted classrooms.

Kindergarten Round-Up - Parents of children who will be starting kindergarten in Utica Community Schools in fall 2017 can begin the registration process at a kindergarten open house being held Wednesday, March 15 at 7 p.m.  At the open house, parents will have the opportunity to learn about the district's nationally-recognized kindergarten program, meet the teachers and building staff and submit school registration forms. Children are eligible for kindergarten if they turn five years old on or before September 1, 2017. However, children who turn five between September 1 and December 1, 2017 are eligible to enroll in kindergarten if their parents submit a waiver form.  If you have a child turning 5, please call the Beck office for more information (586-797-3900) or visit the UCS website for registration forms.
