Dear Beck Families,

We made it to June!  Hard to believe how fast this school year has gone!  So many good things going on around our school this year.  News to know this week:

Eisenhower Jazz Band - The Eisenhower Jazz Band, and director Mr. Traskal, visited our 5th and 6th graders on Tuesday for a concert.    They shared with our current 6th grade band, and our future band (5th graders!), how much fun they have learning to play a musical instrument and being in the band.  Our students were able to ask questions, too.  Thank you to Mrs. Burris for arranging this opportunity for them!

Field Day - A good time was had by all on Tuesday, as our whole school got outside and had some fun events for our annual "Field Day".  Thanks to Mr. Chapp for organizing a great day!  The students had a wonderful time and the weather even cooperated!   And thanks to all the volunteers who helped out at each event!  Our BFV graciously cooled our students off afterward with some cool icy treats!

Kindergarten Celebration - Our youngest students had a sweet ceremony today marking the end of their first year of elementary school.  This class of kindergartners will be the graduating class of 2029!  :)

Next week:

Honors Assembly - Grades 3-6  Will recognize students for academics, club participation and service organizations

6th Grade Ceremony - Eisenhower High School Performing Arts Center - Begins at 1:30 - Students will be bussed to Eisenhower - Parents may take them home

June 15 - Last day of school for 2016-2017!  Half day - dismissal at 11:29 a.m.

2017 - 2018 UCS CalendarThe 2017-2018 district student calendar has been established and as is attached!

Important Changes to Note in 2017-2018 Calendar:   Below please find an overview of the 2017-2018 Utica Community Schools calendar. Please note some important changes from previous year’s schedules. These changes are required under a new state law that expanded instructional time for all Michigan students.

For the next school year, legislation for expanded instructional time has resulted in full days on January 3, 2018, May 25, 2018 and a half-day on Friday, June 15, 2018.   In addition, three minutes will be added to the high school instructional day (Eisenhower, Henry Ford II, Stevenson and Utica high schools) with dismissal at 2:14 PM.
